USE OF STIMULANTS FOR ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDERS

NATURAL STIMULANTS CAN ASSIST GREATLY (& SAFELY) WITH ADD ISSUES

Scientific study shows that stimulants exert a positive effect on the biological and cognitive processes that are thought to cause ADD. They improve the inhibition of inappropriate responses and cognitive flexibility and memory functioning rather than "doping children up" or turning them into "zombies." But pharmaceutical drugs like Ritalin and Focalin are known to be addictive and to have some potentially harmful sife-effects.

Most children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD) have a positive response to stimulants, and most clinicians agree that stimulants should be the first pharmacologic treatment of choice - what is called stimulant therapy. But pharmaceuticals are often simply too harmful in other concerns, and because nutrition plays such a central role in ADD, natural stimulant supplements can help in other ways beside just focusing attention, and are increasingly winning favor with parents.

In, fact, a comprehensive examination of this subject carried out at the Montreal Children's Hospital discovered a startling fact. At the end of five years, hyperkinetic children who received drugs (either Ritalin or Chloropromazine) did not differ significantly from children who had not received. Although it appeared that hyperactive kids treated with Ritalin were initially more manageable, the degree of improvement and emotional adjustment was essentially identical at the end of five years to that seen in a group of kids who had received no medication at all. One of the major problems is that unlike organics like ELEVERA, stimulant drugs do not address the crucial nutritional aspects of ADD.

Organic stimulants can also supplement deficient amino acids and vitamins associated with ADD, and assist with boosting the body's ability to safely use the stimulants themselves. Adaptogens like Rhodiola, Calamus and Schizandra (all key ingredients in Elevera) support the adrenal glands, working with the body to reduce stress while boosting energy, which is critical to minimizing harm to the body which inevitably comes when using stimulants long-term.  Adrenal glands are literally overwhelmed by unaided long-term stimulant use and this leads to all sorts of problems.  Furthermore, amino acids like Tyrosine and Phenyalanine are key in preventing ADD symptoms (see below.) And B & C vitamins are central to proper health in ADD sufferers.

Successful treatment improves the core symptoms of ADD. In addition, improvements in fine motor control, decreased aggression, improvements in social relationships, reductions in oppositional and rule-breaking behaviors, and improved accuracy in schoolwork are seen. Why not take advantage of a stimulant that helps with nutrition as well?

The effective use of stimulant supplementation is not specific to ADD but can extend to other disorders of attention and behavior. In patients with ADD and conduct disorder, stimulants markedly reduced not only aggressive symptoms but also covert symptoms such as cheating, lying and stealing.

There is one substance that has been shown in scientific studies to be particularly beneficial in treating ADD -- L-Tyrosine (also a key ingredient in Elevera.) This is an amino acid (a protein) that the body uses to synthesize dopamine and norepinephrine, the two neurotransmitters believed to be involved in ADD. These neurotransmitters are the targets of the medications used to treat ADD. Some studies have shown that children with ADD may have lower levels of this amino acid.

By increasing the intake of L-Tyrosine and DL-Phenylalanine through diet or supplements, it is possible to increase the amount of dopamine and norepinephrine available in the brain. It has been seen in clinical practice that some children and teens have benefited from taking just one or two Tyrosine tablets per day. ELEVERA powerfully increases both L-Tyrosine and DL-Phenylalanine levels and directly causes elevated dopamine and norepinephrine production, which has a powerfully positive effect on ADD.  In so many ways, it addresses the root problems of attention & behavioral disorders, which pharmaceuticals do not.

Obviously stimulants are only part of the solution, but ELEVERA can benefit children with even mild attention problems. Remember that Elevera is not a treatment or cure for ADD but a natural support formula that helps prevent and improve symptoms based on nutritional intelligence and research. We highly recommend that it be used in conjunction with OMEGA MATE 3-6-9 for optimal benefit and effect. Consult your physician before starting any supplement use.
